Self-Care Rituals To Prepare Yourself For The Year Ahead

I’m Grateful & honored that my Fire Ritual is apart of this great article by Nylon Magazine! Click on link for full article, it’s a great read! Here’s a sneak preview….

“Out with the old and in with the new. With a whole new year ahead of us, it’s time we start letting go of the past, especially what no longer serves us. “Letting go of what does not serve us creates space for us to call forth what we do want in our lives,” says Tina Bornstein of Tony&Tina Vibrational Remedies. So, how do we do that? Set shit on fire! (Seriously.)”

Awakening Awareness

This is a time of transformation. Our inner healer has awakened. Many are experiencing emotional issues coming to the surface, I sure have, and that is because we are ready to release what does not serve us. Some of us were taught to brush difficult things away / under the carpet to maintain the status quo so giving yourself permission to think and speak about these things can be helpful. It may not always be comfortable but I always find it rewarding. I have had clients, and friends talking about the dark night of the soul and I understand! When I go dark, I go dark…but I know there is always light and that is what I walk toward again and again. God, Guides, Universe (that’s usually how address my higher power) is always ready to help.

I find myself feeling more sensitive to my own, and others, energy.  I’m not alone in this, all consciousness is raising its frequency, so attention to our energy is very helpful; it’s important to keep it clear, balanced and harmoniously interacting. All of us interact with each others energy everyday so energy mindfulness and hygene is important. Our energy intentions are powerful. They of course greatly affect us but also everyone around us so we should use them for good. I tend to think of it in a SYFY fashion, like in Star Wars, I must use The Force within and around me for good. I like to say give good energy.

It’s like the dawn of mindfulness.  I feel an awakening, a sense of oneness with the world and that changes my thoughts and actions.  I remind myself to always think, speak and act with loving-kindness, I remind myself to feel present and not carry old stories and emotions into that presence.

I do a few things to encourage this process…. but right up front I have to say the most important thing is HONESTY about the relationships and situations in my life. If I can’t be honest I can’t see where to improve, and I need to see through illusions I may have created and these illusions take up space so seeing them and releasing them is vital. Illusions are restricting and honesty is freeing. Being free, in everyway, is better, always. It allows for expansion. Here are a few things I find useful.

Awakening
1. Clearing and balancing all the chakras is very effective to heal old wounds and to see our life clearly. Do this by first using your left hand in a counter clockwise motion over them and then with your right hand make a clockwise motion over the chakras.

2. Opening your crown chakra (top of our heads) can make your internal clouds drift away and there are a few ways to do this. Visualization is always fantastic and super easy! Also a great way to clear the mental negativity and clutter is the crown pull, which has many benefits but one of them is opening your crown chakra.
3. Affirm you are open – I like “I am an open channel to the love and light of the universe” But it’s important you use words that resonate with you so whatever words feel right to you, are right.
4. Keep your 3rd eye chakra (between your eyebrows) clear. This is a great way to increase your intuition but also to have a clear perspective about live and situations.  Use the same clearing and balancing for this chakra as you did for the crown chakra. I also find it helpful to visualize windows on my 3rd eye and I imagine these windows opening and all the clutter easily blows out the leaving this chakra clear and healthy. I always take a big breath in when I do this visualization and it feels amazing.
5. Make sure all your energy systems are buzzing happily and harmoniously with each other and the world around you – you can achieve this with some Eden Energy Medicine basics like the three thumps (spleen, thymus and k27), Wayne Cook, Connecting Heaven & Earth, Crossovers, Celtic Weave and the Hook-Up and the Zip-Up. See the video links highlighted here and feel I have a 25 page booklet with pictures and how too’s that I can email you upon request.
6. Be aware of the signs. God, Guides, Universe, your higher power, is sending us messages all the time. Trust the gentle guidance that can come in any form, a passing conversation or an invitation to help a friend with a project and on that project you meet someone who perfectly complements something you need in your life. As The Fixx song says One Thing Leads To Another – so go for it! I linked the song because I like it and maybe you can dance around and have some fun with it. Fun is important!
7. Spend time in nature. Nature is so healing and forest bathing has become very popular. Also check out this research on earthing.  It is wise and if you sit quietly with it for long enough it will begin to speak with you and asking the earth to support you in feeling safe, grounded and protected enough to fully “open” can be powerful.  I talk about this in detail in my grounding post. I once had a great teaching from a tree!
8. Know how to calm your triple warmer, our flight or fight response. Change can scare our energy so to be open you have to feel calm, safe and protected. During your journey of opening learn to stay in vibration with love and radiance, not fear. Also worth mentioning is that sometimes we feel anger from old wounds, so let the easy triple warner exercise(s) above support you but one of my favourite energy medicine tools I use all the time is the blow out / expelling the venom. It not only releases anger but also clears energetic space within you.
9. Get out of your comfort zone – this shakes you up a bit, which helps us awaken. Like a refreshing splash of cold-water let yourself see with new eyes.
10. One of my favorite teachers told me to always have the eyes and mind of a beginner. #Wisdom!
11. Make sure you are laughing and having fun – joy opens and balances our energies, our radient energies .

Actions That Support Your Awakening Awareness:
1. Be a kind and loving person. Simple.
2. Mindful eating – really look at what you put into your body. You are what you eat after all! A clean and flowing physical body helps the mind stay clear – you want to be awake with all your senses and sometimes when we focus on the spiritual we forget about the physical and vice versa – remember everything is connected.
3. Mindful environments at home and work. Look around and think how can I improve my home or workspace. Changing your external landscape supports the internal. Surround your self with things you love and things that represent the energy you want in your life. I talk about this a lot in my book Color Energy.
4. Surround yourself with like-minded people – we all inspire each other! As they say your vibe attract your tribe.
5. Honestly look at your relationships to see if any are toxic and if they are cut them loose – energetically and literally if you can.
6. Meditate. It is almost a cure-all!
7. Tap into the collective energy – globally and universally. Most see those two things as the same thing and yes they are but I see it as a microcosm (our world) and macrocosm (the infinite universe, multi-verses). We are consciously connected to everything, everything is connected, everything is energy! Very often meditators will describe their state of mind of being like that – the sense of complete oneness, when everything else falls away and you are in blissful awe of the beauty that is life.
8. Be in the right vibration and use the law of attraction. Choose to awaken into love and radiance.

If You Are Not Feeling It:
1. Explore clearing your chakras – you may be holding onto an old story that is blocking your forward movement.
2. If you have had any traumas, most of us have, tune into yourself and see if you can find any part of you that has disconnected from yourself and life. You may want to see an energy healer for soul retrievals – I do this but so do many wonderful energy healers. The goal is to be truly “whole” in who you are in every way. When this happens for you it will more than likely bring your life-purpose into focus and that my friends is a real gift!
3. Explore whether you are isolated in any way. Many of us can go about life just thinking only of ourselves and what’s in our world / reality and this restricts us. We have to see our existence in its entirety – everything is connected and our ego can block us making our worldview small and that cheats us out of the wonder, awe and greatness that is “everything’. There are so many amazing things that come into our lives when we let go of ego.
4. Enjoy everything! When you enjoy life the more your health improves so the more you enjoy everything the more health and happiness you will have. It’s all about connections. We need to be fully “connected” to ourselves and have all our energies connecting so we can be the best version of ourselves. The daily energy medicine tools I link too above are a great place to start.

I fully believe everyone has a loving compassionate heart so during this time of awakening go out of your way to share your love and friendliness. Say please and thank you. Say, “Have a great day”. Smile at a stranger. Give a loved one a break if they are having a tuff time. Be kind to each other and be kind to yourself.

The Legendary Kogi & Their Wisdom

This is part one of three personal stories about my Shamanic journey to Colombia December 2016. Other posts include a Wondrous Heart Opening and The Many Cristina’s

A super long post, sorry, so it’s broken into sections and certain topics in bold for you to find what interests you the most as you scroll through. I have some great environmental recourse links at the end…but one very important part of this journey was that it lead our group to create a Land For The Kogi Fund, a private fund to help them reclaim their ancestral lands and I am thrilled to report that through our efforts we raised close to $10,000 which bought 99.7 acres of land, and we had enough left over to buy them a solar panel so for light, which they have never had till now. More details on this towards the end of the post but feeling very proud! Being in service to others is a beautiful gift and I am thankful I was able to be apart of helping them because they sure did help and affect me!

Who Are The Kogi?
The Kogi, our Elder Siblings, the Guardians of Mother Earth are living in what they consider the “Heart of the World”. They have a profound wisdom about nature that could very well make everyone rethink their ideas on the environment and the universe. They offer us solutions that are so simple – to connect, ground and respect the earth or “Aluna” what they call Mother Earth, Ocean Mama and Father Universe. They have a presence that commands respect and opens your heart and worldview boundlessly.

The power of their wisdom and energy is humbling. They live in the Colombian Sierra Nevada Mountains but few people outside of Colombia know who they are and what they represent and now is the time they have chosen to come out and share their hearts to teach us in hopes of saving our planet.

They are the direct decedents of the Tarona tribe who fled up to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to escape servitude – the Conquistadors never conquered them in the 500th century so their culture is pure. Since the 1988 documentary From the Heart of the World: The Elder Brothers’ Warning (Kogi message) they have not let many into their community, let alone to stay with them, until now. Our group lead by John Perkins, Daniel Koupermann and Jaruen were invited to stay in one of their communities for a night to partake in ceremonies and teachings. They invited us into their sacred ceremonial lands and spaces.

Before we could enter their community they had us purify ourselves – discussed further on in Ceremonies and Offerings in this post. In the morning a beautiful Moma, Manual, invited us into a sacred space for the men and the honor we felt was palpable. Within this sacred hut he told us that we are now accepted into their hearts and that they consider us friends – there was not a dry eye in the house! To be apart of this historic trip of meeting and staying with them was amazing in itself but the openness and acceptance of us into their hearts is beyond what I can express. I will take this opportunity to honor our group. We had a collective purity and openness of heart – we were all there with respect and honor towards them and I believe they recognized that. Massive amounts of gratitude to the amazingly beautiful souls I traveled who are pictured on this post.

We had the great honor of meeting with them 3 other times for teachings and ceremonies, one which was unexpected so it was a beautiful sign that we were / are in harmony with their purpose.

The Kogi are now ready to actively teach us and share their wisdom…we must listen. Some will not like what they hear because it can be a hard pill to swallow when you recognize your participation in doing harm to the earth and our fellow man, it was for me, and that’s ok. But this bitter pill is what will allow us to accept their truths. We are ready to accept truth when we are ready but I encourage you to reflect on their wisdom. It is worth mentioning that to become a Moma / Shaman you are chosen at the age of 1-2 years old and for the next 25 years endure intense training. The Kogi people honor their own wisdom, they practice what they preach in such a deep way and we can all learn from that – major respect!

Kogi Wisdoms
The Kogi busted open my mind and energy and gave me such wisdom about earth and life. Man I thought I was so connected to earth but they tore apart that illusion! I do not mean to diminish any of my past connections with Aluna – it’s been a constant in my life since childhood and earth has helped me and me it but they way the Kogi speak about it is unlike anything I have ever heard. When they speak it’s as if you are receiving an energy transmission so you are not only hearing the information you are feeling it – many of my fellow travelers commented on this.

One of the main messages was how we are destroying our earth. They talked about how every step we take greatly affects the world around us. In cities we may not take notice of this but in nature it’s more obvious. Getting in touch with how we affect our world is a crucial part in creating positive change, not just for the planet but also for our internal landscape. The solution is a deeper connection with earth.

My friend Theresa got to ask one of the Moma’s what he thought were the most import things we can do and, “He said the most important thing to share with family & friends is to encourage everyone to become more connected with nature – to spend more time out in it, to plant our own food – but essentially to reconnect so that our love & respect for our planet can grow.”

It is our duty to accept responsibility for the damage we have done and continue to do. They spoke of how we hurt the earth through explosions just to get minerals, to get crystals, and the tears uncontrollably streamed down my face as I realized my participation in this damage. I tried to explain what I do in my business and asked how I could change my ways. If you pick up a stone yourself and ask permission it is ok they said but to mindlessly collect pretty shinny stones is supporting the desolation of our Mother Earth. I clearly see my part in hurting the earth and I am ashamed. John said to me, and I paraphrase, I really do feel your pain but there is nothing you can do about the past so let that go and re-evaluate how you move forward. I am fully committed to changing my personal ways, how I sell and present my T&T crystals and in encouraging others to do the same, as gently as I can. Most of us have awareness about the harm and destruction from diamond mines but not about crystals, I didn’t, and now I know the same harm is being done. Especially because crystals popularity has sored and even in my beauty industry it has become a major trend thus creating more demand which then creates harsher extraction practices and treatment to the workers. By Kogi standards anything that is not offered to you from the earth directly is not good. I am still processing this and figuring out how to ethically continue my crystal use. I have tons of crystals in stock for sale and in my oil blends. I have apologized to them since I am home. The crystals I use for healings are fine because I have a deep relationship with those guys – my personal crystals are given lots of love and gratitude. But until I figure it all out I will be asking anyone who wants to buy my crystals to do so with the awareness that they are a life force given to us by Mother earth. I want to bring an awareness of deep gratitude in hopes anyone with crystals will value and honor them in a deeper way.

I found it amazing to hear their thoughts on happiness. They say if you are unhappy in life you are not connected to earth. We all get so busy we forget to slow down and evaluate how we really are. My friend Theresa reminded me about what Jared, a great guy in our group, asked about their definition of success and they didn’t fully understand that concept in the way he was asking because their concept of success is passing on their wisdom and honoring the earth but his take away is worth sharing. He said he thought he’d been doing things the right way based on our measure of success but knows now that means nothing. And that more importantly, we throw our elders away, cast them aside and ignore them instead of learning all that we can from them and passing it along to our children and grandchildren. Sharing the wisdom of the elders is one of their highest missions.

From my own research on happiness I know in cultures where elders are respected and included with their families and communities their lives are extended and happier, and the meaning of those around them is increased.

They say above all else they respect and honor woman because we give life and they believe that it is only the woman who hold the wisdom to tell the men STOP, you have gone too far and this currently has implications to every aspect of every sentient being. So calling all ladies, we have to empower ourselves and value ourselves enough to know our words have meaning and will help change the world. Many men will support us in this effort but it’s the men who do not like this that we must find a way to reach. I would ask you to evaluate how you can contribute to shapeshifting our world into a place of love and harmony. Remember everything counts, there are no small acts!

Women Supporting Women
We keep learning lessons in life but in our openness learn them in a deeper way as we move forward. On this trip the importance of woman supporting woman deepened. My friend Jonelle said we have a new collective paradigm to support and nurture each other and she and another girlfriend, Theresa, showed me that support during this journey. Each of them on an important journey to fully come into their power and they are inspiring. Many modern cultures have somehow lost much of this but not the Kogi.

This is an important time for woman – in my energy medicine world we speak about this being a time of the matriarch. It is time for us to be empowered and help heal the world and by supporting each other, and by sharing our hearts we inspire each other. John was very encouraging to all the women in the group to speak out and share our stories because now is the time we need women’s wisdom and the way to optimize that is by us celebrating, supporting and empowering each other.

A collective energy has been birthed out of our trip. I believe we can help the Kogi keep and share their wisdom and that more and more people will awaken to their message. We can shapeshift our world to one of loving-kindness and respect, not our current state of mindlessness and destruction. I think if we are all honest with ourselves we will see how we contribute to our disposable society. Gentleness is required to get some people to change because who wants to admit they are hurting themselves, their loved loves and our planet – it’s not easy to look at but this truth and the awareness can transform our lives on every level and just maybe we can co-create a harmonious, healthy and happy planet.

Our Disposable Lives
As I said some of these are hard lessons or adjustments to make, we all like to go out and grab a Starbucks or buy new cloths instead of mending the old ones. It’s easier for busy people to order in or eat frozen food instead of making it themselves. We are living disposable lives so from that point of view how can expect our internal world not to be just as disposable? We are not disposable and need to value ourselves more. The Kogi say the only answer to all this is to deepen our connection to earth, to constantly make offerings, to be aware of what we take and what we give back…this is not dissimilar to the other indigenous people I’ve had the honor of learning from. The time to listen to the indigenous voice has come!

The following are all questions I am personally revisiting thanks to the Kogi. What do you give yourself? What do you give away? Do you love and honor yourself and if so how? Do you value your life and gifts and again if so how? Do you respect yourself? Do you respect our planet? How do you treat your body? Do you honor your elders? Do you have compassion for your fellow man? What do have that you really do not need? What can you do without in order to help others? All these questions should be deeply pondered in an honest way because if you are open to seeing where improvements can be made you can and will transform yourself and those around you to have a more loving harmonious, meaningful and joyful life.

Honoring Life
We must recognize these indigenous tribes have a wisdom that has been lost to many of us. So many of us are separated from the earth that literally breathes life into us. My friend explained to me how if you turn a tree upside down or the lungs right-side up they look almost exactly alike – the trees literally are our lungs and our lungs the trees. That every breath we take in is receiving the yin of life and every exhale the giving yang of life – I hope I am getting that right, will correct if need be. The idea is clear to me though…that with every breath we are connected to nature, to earth and there is no separation between anything so if we dishonor the earth, nature, we dishonor ourselves. When we hurt the earth we hurt ourselves. The opposite is true as well – we can care for Aluna we heal her. There are so many ways to do this and doing some good old fashion earthing and earth hugging is a great place to start! So is mindful breathing! You can set the intent that with every breath you are feeding life and love into our world.

There is no green without blue; no blue without green…just as there is no “us” without a healthy environment. We must protect our oceans and forests for without them we will perish – the tipping point has arrived and it is time to take action. Some ideas of how to do this are listed at the end of this post.

Ceremonies and Offerings
From other indigenous experiences I know how important making offerings are to the Aluna. The Mayan’s also speak about how we have to honestly look at what we take from earth and what we give back. We must make offerings for what we take from the earth and from any energy we draw from. There must always be an equal and balanced exchange of energy. If you feel there has not been an equal exchange you may want to try a forgiveness cerimony the Mayan’s taught us or do the Cotton offering I speak about below.

Cotton Offerings and Strings of Achievement
Before entering the first Kogi village we were given a small piece of cotton and told to put all our negativity, worries and unneeded energy into it, which we then gave back to them. They would later bury this cotton. This signified our purity to enter their village and we received a simple but beautiful sting around our wrists to signify our purity of heart and energy.

Before we left this same Kogi village we were asked to put all our apologies to the earth into another piece of cotton. It was raining hard and they said this was a great sign from Aluna that she received and accepted our “sorrys”. This one got me big time. I wasn’t expecting it to be so effortless, I held the cotton in my hand and instantly tears of sorrow began to fall, it felt cleansing to take responsibility for the damage I have done and for what we have all done to our mother earth. I kept saying I am sorry I am sorry and I felt the earth accept my apology, which is currently beyond words for me.

The last Kogi ceremony we had was on a beach that has a lagoon on one side and ocean on the other, magic yet again. There where many sacred Kogi stones, the number nine has great significance to them and in this place were nine holes in large stones, and they said if our intentions were true the water in the holes would begin to bubble and spin clockwise. We were asked to place our sacred items on the sacred stone. We were with the Kogi Moma, Juan, his pregnant wife and his son who is a moma in training and we got to witness the father teaching the son how to make an offering – allowing us to see this was an honor beyond words!

The Kogi Moma asked us to ask the universe for enlightenment and I write about this in my heart opening post but it’s important to mention here as well since it’s a Kogi ceremony. I found the wording I needed “Let the light of enlightenment flow through me” but I felt something was missing; I needed to offer something in return. I offered the universe my fully open divine femininity and the message was received and my journey deepened. I opened and connected in a way that I can’t fully express. It was an ecstatic feeling that I connect with daily now.

During this ceremony I did feel the light come into me and I was laying on the sand, head on a sacred stone and I realized suddenly a stone was in my hand and that it felt soft and feminine – it was soothing like a stress stone. I felt it was a gift from Aluna. I heard the moma family behind me so I open my eyes to look back sensing the ceremony was coming to an end and the moma (shaman) looked me right in the eyes and nodded to me as if to say YES – I felt like he saw my connection and I enjoyed that moment of recognition. We received two cotton bracelets this time with a little bead on it, they hold such value to me, and I never want them to fall away….

During our surprise invitation to another Kogi village, later that day, the moma asked us to put 9 wishes into the cotton he gave to use. He said they would then be taken high into the Sierra Nevada Mountains to be buried in the earth – to plant the seeds of our wishes. He invited us into their “school” and spent a fair amount of time explaining the meaning of their sacred items – the experience felt very special. Beautiful. Grateful.

Cotton Ceremony At Home
You can easily do this cotton purification ceremony on your own – I have since I’ve been home. You take a cotton ball, organic is best, and sit outside on nature, or by a house plant if you live in a city, and meditate on what you want to let go of, or apologize for or wish for. I meditate on this for about 10 minutes and then bury the cotton or throw it in water, and on one occasion I flushed it down the toilet – intention is everything! You then turn in a 360-degree clockwise circle and then counter clockwise 360 degrees and your done. Always thank earth / nature for absorbing what you have let go of and the earth will then happily transform it back into pure source energy.

Why We Wanted To Help The Kogi

Giving Money To Their Mission
They are in a dire situation where some of the communities that are in the highest parts of the mountains are starving because of infertile soil. They are still recovering from having been abused by the Colombian farmers, the FARC and mainly the right wing Paramilitaries since the beginning of the republic. In the 60´s they were abused for the marijuana plantations and then after that for the coca plantations.

Now the Colombian government has controlled the illegal activities in the area, and this is why the Kogi’s can now come back to their ancestral lands in the lower part of Sierra Nevada where agriculture is viable, as well the weather, and maybe they can have access to some basic health services.

One of the Kogi’s biggest missions right now is to share and preserve their wisdom. Jaruen, our local guide was super open, sweet and is close with the Kogi – he had taken a couple of them into his home when they were in danger from the Narco’s. He said too much wisdom is dying with their elders and they need to find a way to get around to all of the Mamos/Elders and glean as much of their wisdom as possible, not just for themselves for future generations. He said they would require financial support to provide the transportation and resources they need to travel to various villages. Jared asked if they’d rather have money for land or money for transportation and Jaruen said buying back the land was most important because then they could live together and share the wisdom on a daily basis. He said that they would view success as being able to harness and relay all of that wisdom. To me this shows their incredible purity of heart.

Our goal was to raise $10,000, which would buy almost 4 HECTARES (10 ACRES) of land for them and we did it!!!! We even had enough money left over to buy them a solar panel, which will enable them to work at night. This was a private fundraising initiative and I am so proud! I will keep everyone updated once more inicatives are under way.

Help Honor And Share Their Message
I hope I was able to relay some of their wisdom here but please also check out the BBC Documentary as well as John Perkins Blog about this trip.

Preserve Nature
I would ask you to look around your immediate community and see how you can help preserve nature and earth itself. Even in NYC there are ways to do this with Green Roofs and Community Gardens so I know outside the city your efforts will be easily achieved.

Be conscious of your Eco Footprint. When I measured mine I was shocked!

Learn about Earth Energies.

Learn to Connect With Earth.

In Colombia I’d like to find a way to help to stop Don Diego River being dammed up. That is the river we floated down on tubes and it was filled with life in and around it. It was also a gathering spot for the locals. At one point we passed a small beach where families had gathered to connect in song, dance and fun and it really made a lot of us think wow you might look at where these people live and think how sad, they are so poor but that is our false perception. They have everything – love, community and natures gifts. If this river is dammed up all of those guys who carried our luggage up and down the river and the men who kept us “in bounds” on the river would all be out of a job and that the village would cease to exist without the revenue generated from the tubing experience. So damming up a river is not just the loss of a beautiful nature reserve it is ending the livelihood of those beautiful people. I am throwing this out to the universe and would love to hear from anyone who is able to let me know ways to support this not happening! Thank you.

Wondrous Heart Openings

Preface…I’m still processing all this so I have tried to break this into sections, so you can just scroll to what interests you…as my Dad will say, this is practically book and way too long but hey it’s my journey and this trip was spectacularly packed with so many wondrous experiences I can’t help myself…This is apart of three stories “shares” about my Shamanic Journey in Colombia, December 2016. Other posts are The Legendary Kogi & Their Wisdom and The Many Cristina’s

Before The beginning…
I believe my journey began before I even got on the plane. My body tends to react significantly if a big shift is coming and two weeks before the journey to Colombia my body began shifting in uncomfortable ways – it knew parts of me were about to die in order to be rebirthed. I had multiple heart openings and connections happen for me – all connected through the feminine energy within me. I see and feel these connections and openings on a much deeper level than ever before.

Laying The Groundwork
My first day in Colombia, hour really, I was unwinding in the deck pool thinking about how I wanted my heart to be more open and as I gazed up at the moon and one bright star two birds suddenly flew closely over my head in complete harmony. That same night we all witnessed a magical wedding, fireworks and then some salsa dancing and it was the beginning of an opening.

I know how to be alone and enjoy it but I’ve taken it too far and that is apart of why this is all significant. I can think of a million reasons I’ve had my heart closed, in so many ways, and I am a world-class expert in that matter. I have now shapeshifted my perceptions to be a world-class open heart human and I affirm I will stay that way.

It’s taken me a long time to get to here – my heart opening really begun in Guatemala when I had a beautiful conversation with a tree about it, and now on this trip it manifest in glorious ways.

Calling Forth My Femininity
On this amazing island, Mucura, we did a few journeys and one of the first was about finding your intent for the trip and John was saying go deeper and push harder but I felt nope, just the opposite for me – I felt a gentle energy come up and my intent was clear, to gently yet fully allow my feminine self to surface and blossom.

The next journey John led us through was a partner experience, to find your partners animal spirit that would then support them through what was about to come. Once you found your partners animal spirit you would blow it into their heart and head, super cool! My partner didn’t see an animal for me but instead light. He said he saw a bright light that he perceived as a light shining from my heart and connecting to the universe. This message deepened throughout the trip and by the end I was effortlessly seeing and feeling a continuous light circulating between my heart, nature and the universe.

Happy Discoveries
I rediscovered how it feels to feel! I’ve done so much deep energy work, years of healing that I needed to do alone and of course the journey never ends, how boring would that be! But now I’m open and ready to continue my journey walking hand in hand with whoever my person may be. I opened in everyway possible and maybe most importantly learned to love myself in such a deeper and different way its humbling, a great gift.

What Aluna Gave and Showed Me – Nature Opened It’s Arms Wide
This entire journey busted my heart and energy wide open and the gifts that came are amazing. My open heart embraced everything!

The Forest and Plants Opened to My Openness
I opened to the land, universe and trees in a profound way…I was able to actually see the life within them. In the past I’ve had strong feelings of connection with tress and I’ve even had conversations with them but this time I could physically see their life force and I know that is because my heart was fully open. I had an Avatar moment in the first Kogi village where we spent the night. I wondered to the jungles edge and saw what looked like veins of life, of light, flowing though this one particular tree and everything looked illuminated. I thought am I really seeing this and a friend with me said he saw it too so we stood there in awe. Later John told me there is a fungus that is phosphorescent and that is what I may have been seeing but I know it was deeper than that. I not only saw it, I felt it.

Later on in the journey I was standing looking deep into a bunch of tress with super big leaves and I felt them reach out and invite me to journey into them – of course I did – and I saw radiant light shimmering. My heart joined their heart and again physically saw and felt the radiance, it was magical. These plants offered me their light and I offered my open heart in return and I felt their happiness in our connection.

OceanMama Offered It’s Oneness…I Accepted
I’ve always been a forest girl, appreciated the beach and love it’s healing qualities but it was never my “go to” for connecting. On this journey I had two very significant ocean experiences. The first was with a new friend, Lisa, on the magical Mucura Island. We were lying in the ocean hammocks and she asked if I was interested in standing in the sand / water to connect with it, uuuhhh yes! We stood there for a few minutes connecting and we both felt something deep beneath us, reaching up into us. I viewed it as a crystal bed hidden deep beneath the ocean floor and I believe her experience was slightly different but we opened to each other and to the ocean and when it felt complete we just hugged. Beautiful.

My second ocean experience was after our tube ride down the Don Diego River, which needs saving and is mentioned at the end of my Kogi post. We slided down this amazingly beautiful river filled with and surrounded by life and this river runs into the Caribbean Sea. We landed on a small beach / peninsula where one side touched the river and the other the ocean, amazing! Most of us dove into the ocean –The waves were fierce! I’ve never swum in such powerful waves. I would dive under a large oncoming wave and the water was pulling me forward and backwards at the same time and I felt the oceans energy reach into me and my hair and body felt as if I was receiving a full inner and outer energy massage. The water was pulling me out to sea a bit and my fellow travelers began to whistle and call for me to come back – it probably looked like I was out of control but I only felt the oneness of it all. Huge sigh of wow, I will never forget that loving feeling.

A Bath of Light
We went and took a light bath in Kelp off the island and when you moved your body these radiant drops of diamond like lights appeared all around you – again light showing up as a message for me. You wear a life vest in a dipper like fashion so you can bob in the water and as I moved my hands and feet igniting the kelps light I made motions to open my chakras to bring in the light – it felt powerfully gentle if that makes any sense…

The Universe Opened
I’ve spoken to the universe / to nature since childhood but to have someone see the light between my heart and the universe was amazing and more so that it just kept deepening throughout the journey. In one of the sacred Kogi ceremonies they asked us to ask the universe for enlightenment. I found the wording I needed “Let the light of enlightenment flow through me” but I felt something was missing so I set the intent and energy that I was offering my fully open divine femininity to the universe for the gift it was giving me. I could feel the message was received and the ceremonial journey deepened for me even further. To fully offer my femininity, my inner goddess, and then receive the light and enlightenment back was profound and I opened and connected in a way that I can’t fully express. It was an ecstatic feeling that my open heart will forever be connected to.

Since home my connection has not failed, maybe a moment here or there but as soon as I open and connect to Aluna I feel the light of my femininity fully connecting to earth, the heavens and nature. I feel receptive. Connected. Embraced

Some Happy Homework For Staying Open…
In energy medicine we always say it’s not just about fixing your energy it’s about making that healing stick so I know everyday I have to fight to stay open and here are some of my ideas on how to do that, I hope some of it resonates with you.

Being Open To Life
There is so much to embrace in this life and I plan to live more fully. To love more, to have more gratitude, to be in service more…to play, sing and dance as much as I can and to offer my open heart more to heal Aluna as the Kogi call it – Mother Earth, Father Universe and Ocean Mama. Life is exciting, amazing and anything and everything can happen. Having passion for it all is definitely a heart opener!

Stop and Feel
I’m always rushing around and although I mediate and do my energy medicine I now feel a sense of peace after this trip. I have had a few moments of that urgent I must do this, blinders up, must focus feeling but I stopped myself and say slow down, clam down and I can feel the great benefits in this. It opens me which actually facilitates a higher level / quality of productiveness.

So now when I find myself with a busy mind or am rushing around possibly forgetting to even breathe I stop. I’m reminding myself to take my time to breath deeply and connect to my light, the earth and to the love in our collective consciousness.

Loving Yourself
It all begins within us. I want to feel every part of myself in complete acceptance and sometimes that can be a challenge. Self-acceptance…whoa…I am skilled in self-criticism but that has all changed and I am determined to keep it that way. I have to remember to love myself deeply and do anything I have to in order for that self-love to stand strongly within me. I see a new harmony between happiness and love being firmly grounded in openness. Also by slowing down the noise in my head, as Daniel Koupermann would say, is key in this.

I’ve always been passionate about showing, sending and using love in day-to-day life but this new openness is just more, deeper, it is for everything. Everyday I will greet life with an open loving heart. It makes me happy to be in touch with that on such a deep level.

Being Happy
We “played” a lot on this journey – John is a great jokester and it’s contagious. I think the openness of playfulness is important during this continuing journey. I want to lighten up and I don’t need to be so serious. I need to play in order to be happy and I can’t be open if I am not happy so…

The Kogi say we can’t be happy if we are disconnected from earth – so connecting to the earth and ourselves, as we are, is a beautiful and very necessary way to maintain all openings.

Being Vigilant
I have to be very mindful of slipping into my old ways…it’s easy and comfortable to fall back and retreat. In the past I’ve always talked about how happiness is a choice and now I know so is an open heart and I choose that. Everyday.

Get Physical
We have to move! Our energy needs to flow easily through us and movement creates openness. We need this for every level of our being; our energy systems need this – another thing to be mindful of. I can get stuck at my desk writing for very long periods of time, the entire day for sure and sometimes into he night. I find stretching and dancing around the apartment really helps me open and connect with myself, and it’s entertaining to me. If you get creative you can do both at the same time and it just completely shifts your perspective.

Affirmation: I am open. Open, open…be open…

The Many Cristina’s

This is apart of a three part story about my shamanic Journey in Colombia, December 2016. The other posts are a Wondrous Heart Opening and The Legendary Kogi & Their Wisdom

I had many revelations and this one was extremely profound for me and I believe many of you will be able to relate.

One of our guides, Daniel Koupermann, who is also a Shaman among other wonderful things, has such wisdom! I remembered many of his words from our January 2016 journey in Guatemala, like quieting the noise in my head to get a new perspective on getting what I need. Funny, even writing those words “I need” seems a bit foreign right now. I know I don’t ‘need’ anything, other than survival stuff I suppose. I am committed to just be in the moment and in vibration with an open loving heart and a passion for life (If that’s a hopeful Cristina I like her). On this journey Daniel really lovingly pushed me. He said when he knows someone and cares he likes to help and that honored me very much.

We were sitting by a river, pictured on this post, and he asked for permission to share some observations about me, of course! He said, “Cristina, you have too many Cristina’s” = enters a bioluminescent firework explosion in my head of ok here we go. I will be paraphrasing most of this – I wish you could here his voice; he speaks slowly, thoughtfully and with great insight.

He said I am getting in my own way. I had been feeling some of this truth and even mentioned it in a group share I believe but his words penetrated my heart, mind and soul in a new way. As he spoke the truth about me I had streams of tears, but happy realization acceptance tears.

He said he had met the “Protagonist” Cristina, the “I want, I want” Cristina and the “I have more to say” Cristina…Yep. There are tons on the list but some that immediately come to mind are the insecure Cristina, the need for validation Cristina, the ego Cristina and the over sharing every detail Cristina. He said he was sharing this with me because I am ready to shed them so that the authentic Cristina, who is a bright light, can surface and live fully.

He said start by just observing them. I replied sure, I can see them and then say ‘thank you but go with love’ and he strongly said no, I must fight them. Don’t be kind to them because they will not want to go so get angry and fight like hell. He said I am a brave warrior (of light)…(Oh look, ego Cristina feeling the need to share that, lol)

He suggested putting a small stone or pebble in my shoe, nothing that would hurt, but something to remind me to observe myself more closely. After this conversation I became very aware of myself, I began to observe them and saw a loud Cristina, an over excited Cristina, the I get annoyed Cristina and the judgmental Cristina… yeah, wow, the list really can go on, a bit embarrassing.

And while taking a writing break during this post I found another Cristina I don’t like at all and am currently telling her to piss off and game on. In my heart opening post I said my heart was irretrievably open but an “I have the best walls, it feels safe and I like it” Cristina reared her head – dammit these 50 shades of Cristina are a real bitch but I’m ready to fight. Mental Ninja Time – May The Force Be With Me.

All that said, during this journey the authentic Cristina did come out because of the great wisdoms I was given that tore open my heart and energy in everyway possible. The openings for me on this journey were very deep so how could my authentic self not come out? I can see my light, connections and the transformations I shifted into during this trip. I found a deeper self-love and worth and I know this part of myself will continue to grow. I observed myself open and vulnerable and I like those parts of me, they can stay. I am very grateful and blessed to energetically be where I am now.

Daniel said listen, start with the big ones and don’t expect to get them all because it’s a life long journey – I’m ready, bring it, the gloves are off.

Pain Pumping

This is a very simple but powerful Eden Energy Medicine technique. You put your left hand, receiving, (unless you are left handed) and the right hand, releasing, outward with palm facing the floor or earth. Set your intent that the energy will move safely and easily through you – you want to do some basic energy protection techniques first of course, like the Celtic Weave and Zip-Up. You hold your left hand over the painful or injured area and then begin to make a pumping motion with your right hand – you are literally pumping out the pain, toxins or whatever needs to be released / healed.

Once when I was pulling toxins out of a friends legs where he had been severely bitten by bugs, we were in the jungle. I could feel the toxins moving out but then as I got deeper into the process I began to actually feel pin pricks in both my hands and there was a distinct difference in my left hand which was pulling things out – it felt as if I was being literally pin pricked inward and on the right hand which was expelling all that I felt that same prick but it was very clearly exiting my hand. Just as it’s clear which way the wind is blowing it was that clear to me what was coming in and then out.

Pain Pumping For The Chakras
You can pain pump for emotional issues as well…I would call this an Eden Energy Medicine inspired….

When you are doing chakra work and encounter an area or level that is heavy and / or stuck it is very effective to pump out the emotional blockages / stories / emotions….

You hold your receiving hand (usually the left) over the chakra making counter clockwise motions while your right hand makes the pumping motion…

I of course did some major self-care energy releasing afterwards, mostly the Blow Out and Connecting Heaven & Earth and felt great after. No residual affect except for him, he felt batter.

Energy Medicine Testimonials

“Describing the affect of Cristina’s energy work is extraordinarily difficult because it parallels no other experience in my life. When I find myself in a place where I have lost my grounding, confidence or ability to think clearly I always turn to her. She is a true healer who communicates both verbally and energetically in order to assess where my body and energy need attention and guidance. I made one of the healthiest decisions of my life after a session with her brought me clarity and confidence to believe in my own choices and worth.

Cristina is not only a healer but a teacher. She has provided me with the tools to practice energy medicine in my own life, which I turn to when I am feeling stressed or insecure. After each session she gives me exercises to help me on my journey at that point in time. I also use her Tony and Tina aura spray daily and her adrenal support oils when I am working 12-15 hour shifts at work.

I cannot recommend her highly enough, not only is she truly gifted but supportive, kind and fun to be around.” Caitlin Roche, NYC

“I have had many sessions with Cristina over the last few years and I appreciate working with her for so many reasons. Cristina radiates positive, light-filled energy, and understands energy better than anyone else I have worked with. No matter what comes up for healing, Cristina is sensitive, adaptable, respectful, and able to intuit how best to approach each session. She draws not only on her deep experience and high-level skills in energy medicine, but also on her kindness, and compassion. I feel completely safe and supported during our sessions, and by the individualized “homework” she writes up for me to use after our sessions, too. Working with Cristina has helped me with physical health issues, as well as clearing ancestral energies, and giving me energy medicine tools to support myself independently. The depth of healing I’ve experienced working with Cristina amazes me. I feel healthier, more whole, more my true self. I am so deeply grateful to have found her.” T.H. Toronto, Canada

“Cristina is a truly gifted healer. I first went to her years ago, after a break-up. Both Cristina and her healing space were warm, calm and welcoming. At the time I didn’t know anything about energy healing or chakras. As I received her reiki treatment, not knowing what to expect, I began to feel the energy inside me move around, release, unlock. When she got over my throat chakra I was able to release tears, negative energy and blocks. I hadn’t realized how much our bodies hold and how working with our energy allows us to connect to our true selves. Her healing sessions give calm, clarity & confidence on your soul’s path.” Ashley, Brooklyn, NY

“I have tried every form of healing possible and I say without doubt I have never felt anything as powerful as Cristina’s healing work. I deeply trust her. I am thankful to have found her.” Jonny, UK“

“As a Ph.D. of social economics part of me thought energy medicine was not a real solution for my relationship problems but traditional therapy was not working. After one session with Cristina I understood its importance. Over the last two years she has transformed my life and my relationships. I feel I am a healthy person cable of healthy relationships. Thank you Cristina.” Annie, NY

“Cristina has a very unique form of energy healing. She somehow finds the root of my issues and guides me to see the larger perspective and solution. Even my therapist is happy I see her! I feel great comfort knowing she is always there for me. I could not have gotten through the last year without her.” M.H NYC

“Cristina has become a healing tool in my life, period. We have been working together on Skype for over three years and she has created a safe place for me to work on some very complex emotional situations. My spiritual and personal growth would not be where it is without her. Cristina I am grateful you are in my life, you are a true gift and I know I tell you that after every session so I am thrilled to tell the world how gifted and special you are!” John, Actor. Australia

“Cristina knows the powerful energy behind words and intentions and gently redirects the client (in this case me) toward an inner alignment where one’s beliefs and energy systems start to emerge, which allows the real healing process to begin. Cristina is down to earth and exceedingly humble yet I found her to be a powerful catalyst. There is an essential beauty in Cristina’s work where she helped me discover and trust in the true nature of my own healing abilities. She did this by acknowledging the wisdom of my body with its ancient coded knowledge in my DNA. Cristina created a bridge that helped unite the energies in my body that were blocked or stagnant. As it is a cataclysmic process you never know where this work will take you. Trust is an essential partner if you are to heal yourself of any significant illness. I would recommend any time spent with her worthwhile and promise you will not be disappointed.”
Michelle Lords, RN and Life Coach

“I was in a very dark place when I first sought out Cristina to help me see and feel some light and love. I always leave her energy center very relaxed, both mentally and physically! After several sessions I became much more aware and grounded and in a much better place! I often find myself thinking of energy exercises, taking deep breaths and doing figure 8’s if things are not going well and I always get back to being centered and less anxious!
Tina’s energy is simply amazing and gives me hope for a better and more enlightened existence on an everyday basis!”
Ronald Pledge, NY

“I have worked with Cristina many times and each session is more revealing than the last. I know when I’m feeling off but she gets to the root of the imbalances and straightens me right out! She intuitively knows what is needed and is a true healer, helping me leave each time with more clarity and feeling way more relaxed!”
Joanna, NYC

“I’ve been fortunate to experience some very exciting treatments from healers of many different modems but I can say the work Cristina does is of a superior efficiency to other disciplines. She is powerful beyond words and I have seen her change lives, she changed mine. Her healing style is the future of medicine and well-being and Cristina is a true natural.” Tony Gill, NY

“Whenever I do energy work with Tina, I immediately feel relaxed. She has a magical way of grounding my energy that makes me feel amazing. Tina is an endless source of knowledge and she has inspired me to LOVE more and connect with my higher self. Her energy is incandescent.”
Stephanie, NYC

“As a fan of alternative and Eastern medicine practices, I was referred to the services of Cristina Bornstein and became transformed after our first session together. After her chakra cleansing I experienced unparalleled clarity and energy. Her relaxed and compassionate personality made the session fun and very informative. I highly recommend her services and feel fortunate to be her client!”
Reyna Mastrosimone, NY

“Cristina, I am grateful for energy medicine and your wonderful guidance and touch. During the session I was able to release tightness in my body and you definitely took me to another level in this realm. I felt a subtle release and am so grateful and happy for I am seeing shifts in my thinking and certain perspectives I hold. I love this work! Also thank you for your explanation about the many ways I can release energy, among other instructive things you showed me. The angel who showed up taking notes is very much like you and me and has left me contemplating about my angels”
Jan, NJ

“I have always beenopen to alternative (non-Western) healing modalities but was not sure what to expect with my initial Energy Medicine session. I was surprised to realize certain energy deficits and imbalances in my body and how easy it was to make corrections through regular therapy and practice. I have been on a rigorous physical strength training program with a fitness trainer and immediately following my first Energy Session, I realized a dramatic increase in my energy and the overall weight I was able to lift. I highly recommend Energy Medicine therapy for personal growth and healing. It is the perfect complement to any lifestyle and an amazing way to help you achieve your personal goals in life.”

Audio Intentions Meditation Mindful Self-Care

10 Minute Practice

At the start of each meditation session, light some incense or ring a bell or singing bowl and give thanks to your higher power. Keep these things in your meditation space. Ritual can be a powerful tool.

Now sit in lotus position, with your back straight. Imagine a balloon on a string is gently pulling the crown of your head upward, straightening your spine and allowing an effortless flow of energy that creates balance and strength in the seven chakras that run from the base of your spine up to the crown of your head. Visualize the breath gently washing through your body, calming the nerves and releasing blocks… with every exhale see yourself expanding and opening… you are expanding into your limitless consciousness and every breath is expanding your awareness further away into space and into the serenity that exists there… you are opening to the healing love energy of the universe.

Now visualize your body hollowing out from head to toe. There is a deity called Vijisattva, whose name means emptying out. You can call upon this energy force if you are having a hard time letting go. If you have a busy mind, try relaxing your tongue. When your tongue is relaxed thoughts don’t form in a tangible way… don’t chase it, just be… thoughts come into your mind and effortlessly pass through. Sometimes we have a busy mind and that’s ok, just always come back to your breath.

Five Minute Centering

You can do this anytime and almost anywhere. Sit quietly with your eyes closed and deeply, slowly breathe in and out through your nose. In… and out… with every inhale you become calm… with every breath out you release tension and excess energy. Deep inhale in… and out… you are in a calm mind/body state… you sit comfortably inside yourself. Take a deep inhale in… bringing energy back into yourself… take a deep exhale out… release whatever you don’t need, from your muscles, from every cell… any negative emotions melt away… breathe in… and out… give yourself a moment and with one last deep breath, open your eyes.
