Colortherapy

Colortherapy

Color is light, an electromagnetic energy that comes in different wavelengths. When these wavelengths bounce off objects, they create light. Different speeds, intensities, absorbent and reflective qualities determine the colors you see. Your body is made up of this same energy. Within your body you have different energy centers that vibrate at different frequencies. Using colortherapy is as easy as wearing colors you are drawn to or as deep as using them to balance the seven main energy centers in your body called Chakras.

It is now our time to reclaim color as a tool to shape and direct the energy that is our life force. Sickness, anxiety and depression are not things that happen to us, they are of us. A misdirected or blocked energy is the catalyst to all these life-hampering conditions and the power of color can transform us into the joyful beings we deserve to be. Its power is prehistoric. On subconscious cellular levels we have been under colors influence since the dawn of time. Color has been used by early man to symbolize everything from seasons, to social position and to our sexuality.

Earth’s natural elements of color produced profound effects on our ancestors and today, thanks to the advent of E E G’s and the like, it is an even more intricate part of our everyday life and health. Due to some of these man made inventions we have the scientific tools to define exactly what color is and why it so strongly effects our entire energy system and its well being.

Colors most important value is to heal. In the last century color has unfortunately lost most of its deeper meaning to the mainstream fashion trends but healers and scientist have continued to practice alternatives to traditional medicine with stunning results. Our awareness has begun.

How To Use Color As Therapy

Wear it.

The clothes we pull out of our closets on any given day and the accessories we choose to wear with them have a huge impact on how we feel and how others perceive us. The color choices we make influence our mood and our ability to get through the day with confidence and a feeling of being with the flow. And whether you’re getting dressed to go to work, to meet your friends or to go out on a date, color will play a part in how people respond to you.

The color choices we make usually are instinctive. Have you ever wondered why, on some days when you reach into your closet, you are excited about wearing that blue shirt, while on other days, that same blue shirt repels you? That’s our spleen (orange) chakra at work connecting us to our emotions and intuition. Each of us has an innate knowledge of what color frequency we need on any given day. Just as we may crave orange juice when our body needs vitamin C, we are drawn to certain colors when our body needs a boost. We get that boost from color.

A brief history of color in fashion.
The ancient Egyptian priests wore blue to signify their good judgements, the English royals prefer red and purple and some modern day civilizations attribute power with black. This is probably because we perceive it as being mysterious and most of us attribute qualities that surpass our own to the mysterious because it is unknown or supposedly out of our comprehension of knowing. We need to address the importance color has on our energy system and how brown being the new black may not be the key to pulling you out of a lull. What impression are you trying to make? – colors tell the tale.

The key to fashion in the new millennium is healing and self-expression. Some helpful suggestions:

  • Red is a power color and should be worn when you want to feel charismatic and powerful. It also helps when you need courage and inner strength.
  • Wear black when you are trying to mask yourself. The city uniform is often black because it helps personal privacy but also black promotes change and in a fast paced city adaptability to change is crucial; black helps gives us push out of the preverbal nest.
  • Wear brown when we have to come down to earth and play in the preverbal sandbox. It helps our logic.
  • Where yellow socks if you have a big meeting or presentation. It will stimulate your intellect. Remember that story I told you about my big interview.. It works!
  •  For extra charisma and inner strength where red undergarments or red on the exterior will symbolize your courage and power.
  •  Blue has gotten a reputation as the ‘power suit’ the reason behind this is because blue promotes better communication and good communicators are seen as powerful and able to get what they what. If you don’t ask you’ll never get.

Breathe it.

This technique is especially useful for healing physical conditions. Refer to the information in finding out what you need to identify which color can help your condition, but always remember to consult your doctor if any condition persists. For example, pink and light blue breath is beneficial for skin. Red breath helps with colds and sinus conditions. Blue breath eases respiratory problems and is generally good for helping children.

  1. If possible, and assuming you don’t live in a highly polluted area, do this exercise outdoors or sit by an open window.
  2. Prepare yourself with deep breathing.
  3. Imagine the color you want to take in. Breathe it in as colored light. We can do this because our thoughts change the frequency of the air into the frequency or color energy we need.

Examples:

  • Pink breath – beneficial to skin conditions, puffiness and eases loneliness.
  • Blue breath – calming, awakens artistic talent, eases respiratory problems and is generally good for healing children
  • Red breathe – energizing and warming. Helps with colds and sinus; drying to mucus membranes.

Solarize it.

Solarizing Water
The benefits of drinking water can be maximized by creating solarized water with one of the seven color frequencies.

  1. Decide which chakra you want to balance and choose your color accordingly.
  2. Get a transparent glass container in the color you require.
    3. Fill the glass with water and place it in the sun for several hours, longer if the day is cloudy. Sometimes I leave it overnight to get some lunar energy as well.
  3. After several hours in the sun, the sun’s rays will have infused the water with the vibrations of colored container. Sip it slowly, (about ½ – 1 cup should do).

After, keep the water in the refrigerator. Do not keep the water from the warm end of thespectrum, (that is red, orange, yellow) more than a few days. Cool colored water (that is green, blue, violet) can be kept a few days longer.

You can test this exercise by pouring seven different glasses of solarized water and sip them. The water from each glass has a distinctly different taste.
If you don’t have colored bottles you can also wrap a clear glass or jar with transparent fabric the color of the chakra you wish to work on. Silk is ideal. The sun will penetrate the fabric and solarize the water. Colored gels, like the kind from a lighting store, will also do the trick.

Solarizing Rooms
Solarize any room with transparent silk curtains. I’ve tried the curtains and found them a beautiful colortherapy treatment. Decide on the color you need and buy silk fabric making sure it’s opaque enough to block the view from outside and transparent enough to allow sunlight to penetrate. You want to create a glow. Let’s say you’ve decided on green fabric. During the day the sunlight will light the room with a green luminescence at the same time giving it green color energy of the heart chakra. At night the color will be opaque but you’ll still have the green vibrations stored from the frequency of green light filling the room all day long. See finding out what you need for a detailed color guide but green and/or pink is great for the bedroom, it promotes love energy and calm; blue for the living room or office area as it encourages communication/inspiration; and maybe yellow for a window in the bathroom and kitchen because it makes you feel good about yourself and encourages joy.

Paint It

Art : Colors necessity to painting as a pigment reaches far beyond the structural detail that creates an image. It expresses emotion and this draws us into another world that in turn provokes us to contemplate our own. Art is therapy!

Projecting colors
Energy can be transmitted through our hands by breathing and concentrating on our thoughts. Everywhere in our body that we have a joint we have secondary chakras and since we have so many joints in our hands this is why our hand are so therapeutic. Visualizing that the colors are being sent from your hands outward to a given point. This is what healers do. It can also be done by imagining the color energy showering through the top of your head, down through your body and then out through your feet. That one is my personal favorite.

 You can also use colored lights and sit under them.

 You can project colored slides onto the wall and breath deeply while focusing on the therapeutic values running through your body.

Visualize It.

The Color shower
The Color Shower is extremely effective in bringing balance and healing to your energies. For instance, if you’re feeling anxious, a blue color shower will help you calm down.

  1. Decide which color you need. See finding out what you need or better yet tune into yourself and let your intuition guide you.
  2. Prepare yourself with a few minutes of deep breathing – in your nose and out your mouth. Eyes closed and empty your mind as best you can and set the intention that the color you need will come easily to you.
  3. Once you decide on a color or colors, it can be more than one – picture the most perfect version of that color. See it in your mind’s eye showering from the heavens down into the your head, down through your body and out through your feet. It feels refreshing.
  4. The color energy is smart energy and will go where it is needed encouraging any blocks or negativity to drain away. Using your intuition you can ask yourself if there is an area in or around your body that needs attention and then let the color(s) swirl in beautiful cross over and figure-8 patterns in this area.

Finding the color you need.

First off let us say that using your intuition is the easiest way and just as effective as the Colorcard readings. If you are uncertain of your intuitive abilities we encourage you to begin developing them – or tuning into it, because it already exists inside you. But the following is extremely effective and time tested.

You’ll need seven cards corresponding to the seven colors of the spectrum and the seven charkas; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and white. I, Tony, use small cards, about the size of business cards; I, Cristina, like big ones the size of index cards, but any size will do. We made our cards by painting them with acrylic paints and then taking them to Kinko’s to be laminated. We used acrylics because we had them around and they dry quickly, but if you don’t have paints in the house or don’t want to make your own, you can use the color cards printed in the back of our book, Tony&Tina Color Energy. And we have a limited number of Colorcard sets in our shop. Colors stationary paper works too. Each color card has its chakra meaning on the back.

  1. Shuffle the cards and, with your eyes closed, spread them out in front of you. The cards may be either slightly overlapping in one long row (which I like best) or in two rows. Make a mental note as to how you are arranging the cards, but be sure not to look at them. If you do peek, try to forget the placement of the colors or you will defeat the purpose of the reading.
  2. Keeping your eyes closed, rub your hands together to create a warm energy between your palms.
  3. Breathe deeply. Suspend either your right or left hand approximately two inches above the cards and move your palm across them. You may touch each card if it’s easier. Take your time.
  4. Concentrate as you move your hand over the cards. You will soon feel a buzz-like sensation in your palm from one or two of the cards. It’s subtle. Or you may sense a pull or a slightly heavy or hot feeling. People describe the sensation differently, so just listen to that gut feeling and trust your instincts. You might even feel as though you’re guessing. This is fine. Your unconscious is doing the work.
  5. Once you sense a hot spot, pull the card forward. If you are drawn to two cards, pull both forward. See if you can determine which one has the stronger pull.
  6. Open your eyes to see the card or cards you’ve chosen. Note which chakra the color card is related to. If you were drawn to two cards, the one from which you felt the strongest pull is your main life process right now; the other is secondary.
  7. Refer to the color meanings link below and reflect upon what contemplation or action is needed.
